Telford Games.
One of the biggest track and field meetings in the Shropshire calendar takes place next month when Telford Athletic Club hold the Telford Games Track and Field Meeting at the Telford Athletics Stadium on Saturday 10th September. The Telford Games was first held in 1989 by the Telford club before there was even a track in the town when the club used the facilities at RAF Cosford to stage the meeting. In 1991 the meeting was held then called the Ricoh Games as the opening meeting when the Telford Stadium was first built. The meeting traditionally attracts top class athletes from throughout the country and is advertised in the national athletics press. This years event sees events for all age groups from Under 11 boys and girls to senior and veteran men and women. It also features for the first time The Shropshire Mile, a rarely run distance these days and club officials are hoping to attract the cream of Shropshire middle distance stars to take part. Club officials are interested in hearing from anyone who can recall this event being previously run since track events moved to metric distances and the mile was replaced by the 1500 metres. An entry form is available on the Telford Athletic Club website www.telfordathleticclub.co.uk or by contacting the entries secretary Mrs Verone
Wilkinson. 59 Cannongate, Oakengates, Telford, TF2 9DZ or at the Telford Stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
