Simon Daws who has just completed the Cumbrian Traverse in the Lake District, a 35 mile route covering 21 peaks in 9 hours 9 minutes, is also the race organiser of the next race in the Shropshire Summer Series, the Caradoc Classic 3 mile race organised by Telford AC on Wednesday 11th May at 7.30. The race headquarters are the Church Stretton Social Club in Essex Road, Church Stretton and runners of all abilities are welcome for the race to the top of Caer Caradoc and back.
The race records for the Caradoc Classic, the oldest mid week race in the Shropshire calendar are held by Tim Davies, current British Fell Champion from Welshpool for the men who when winning in 2004 ran 22.09, just ahead of Will Levitt who has the second fastest time of 22.16. Steve Cale last years winner in 23.07 is the 9th fastest whilst last years runner up Richard Roberts from Eryri is the 15th fastest with 23.27. Tim's younger brother Andy, has the third fastest time ever of 22.20 when winning in 1997. Anna Bartlett and Louise Taylor share the fastest ladies winning time of 27.33 when winning in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Mel Price second last year in 28.57 is 6th of all time and Newport's Helen Skelton 3rd last year is 10th overall with 30.09.
