Presentation Evening

Telford Athletic Club Annual Presentation Evening.

Leading athletes from Telford Athletic Club collected awards at the Annual Presentation Evening held at the Park Inn Telford on Friday. Fran Garrott and Jim Tipper ( as pictured ) won the best track and field awards for their performance of the year. Fran won the award for her 3rd place in the national Under 15 Javelin Championships as well as previously finishing 6th in the English Schools, she finished the year with a superb personal best at the Telford Games in September throwing 36.10m and finished the season ranked in 3rd place in the country. Tipper won the award following the silver medal in the European Indoor Masters 200m Championships in San Sebastian, Spain in March running 23.16 after qualifying for the final with a semi final in 23.06.

Eva Wade and Alex Burrows won the best junior cross country performances of the year for their superb performances in last years Midland Cross Country Championships whilst the senior cross country awards were won by Claire Martin and Greg Wilson, both leading contenders in their masters categories within Great Britain. The Best Performances on the Road awards were won by the Telford Womens Masters Road Relay team of Kim Fawke, Michelle Clarke, Julie Kirby and Claire Martin who finished third in this years British Road Relay Championships whilst Wayne Dashper won the mens award for his victory in the inaugural Shrewsbury Marathon.

Ellie Vernon from Muxton won the Vic Musgrove Award for the Best Javelin Performance of the Year as she is ranked the number one under 13 javelin thrower in the country for her 37.73m throw, 2 metres further than anyone else, whilst winning for Shropshire Schools in an inter county match at Tamworth in July. Ryan Heath who was second in this years Sexarathon Series won the award as the most improved senior runner of the year.

Annual General Meeting



TELFORD ATHLETIC CLUB

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.
All paid up members of Telford Athletic Club are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting, to be held at The Tennis Centre, Oakengates Leisure Centre, on Thursday 24th October 2013 at 8.00 pm. The meeting will include financial, secretarial, cross country, track and field reports from the previous year, as well as the election of the club committee for the forthcoming year. If any members wish to propose any change or addition to the club constitution, or any other proposals, please contact Paul Sanderson in advance of the meeting.         Copies of the constitution available on request.
Membership Fees for the year 2013 / 2014 will become payable after the AGM.
This meeting is for the members and potential of the club, please come along and have your say.

North Wales Cross Country at Bangor


North Wales Cross Country League.

Claire Martin led the Telford Athletic Club ladies team to a team victory in the opening fixture of this years North Wales Cross Country League, held at Treborth Playing Fields, Bangor, hosted by Eryri Athletic Club. The long drive to the Bangor venue which is on the banks of the Menai Straits, did not deter the Telford ladies as they comfortably won Division One scoring 40 points with Colwyn Bay second with 62 pts and Eryri third with 63 pts. Martin the reigning GB Masters Cross Country Champion, came second on the day to Georgia Garner a talented under 20 runner from Colwyn Bay, who won in 18.43, 17 seconds clear, with Debbie Williams from Menai taking 3rd a further 43 seconds adrift. Michelle Clarke 11th and first over 40 in 21.31, Sarah Mackness 12th in 21.35, Nellie Sanders 15th in 22.16, Sarah Tatton 35th in 24.44 and Sharon Clayton 43rd in 25.37completed the Telford line up. The Telford AC Masters team were also first with 13 points with Wrexham 2nd on 22pts and Eryri third with 27 pts.

Shrewsbury Marathon winner Wayne Dashper led home the Telford AC mens team in 10th, 33.36, just ahead of his team mate Rob Hughes 12th in 33.37. John Garmson was the next TAC finisher 27th in 35.24 and the first over 50 over a minute clear of his nearest age group rival. Ashley Slater was the 4th club finisher 38th in 36.18. Rick Hailey made a welcome return to cross country action finishing 77th in 40.46. Andrew Yates completed the Telford AC scoring team in 94th competing in his first cross country race for many years. Nigel Tatton 118th and Daron Fincham 128th completed the team.

Shrewsbury AC were the leading Shropshire team finishing 3rd in Division 1 with 243 points behind Eryri, 108 and Deeside 128. Telford AC were 4th, 258, with Oswestry 7th, 472 pts. Whitchurch Whippets were 10th in Division 2 with 656 points whilst Bridgnorth AC were 12th out of 15 finishing teams with 848 pts. Shrewsbury were also the leading masters team finishing 3rd, whilst Telford were 7th and Whitchurch 12th.

The next race in the league takes place at St David's College, Llandudno on Saturday 19th October.

Midland Road Relays

Midland Road Relay Championships.
Telford Athletic Club came home with the bronze medals in the Midland Counties Road Relay Championships. Paul Ward ran the opening leg for the Telford AC Masters Team coming home 3rd in 18.52 for the 5.8 kilometre course around the scenic Sutton Park, in Sutton Coldfield, which was the clubs fastest and the 3rd fastest from any club. Chris Bagshaw ran the second leg in 20.28,15th fastest of the day, before Greg Wilson on leg 3 moved the club up to 2nd with a 21.13 run. Dale Wilkinson held onto 2nd, running 21.21 whilst Rob Hughes on the  5th leg ran 20.55 whilst Wayne Dashper, winner of the Shrewsbury Marathon, ran the final leg in 20.37, the 17th fastest of the day, to bring the team home for the bronze medals. Leicester won in 2 hours 1 minute and 18 seconds with Bristol second in 2.02.40 and Telford 3rd in 2.03.26 out of 24 teams that completed the relay.

Claire Martin led the way for the womens four stage team as they finished 10th out of 73 teams, with Claire running the opening leg in 15.12 to come home 2nd and record the 8th fastest of the day for the undulating 4.3 kilometre course. Michelle Clarke went next and brought the team home 4th in 16.53. Nellie Sanders from Shifnal ran the 3rd leg in 18.01 with Sian Webb taking the final leg in 17.53 to bring the team home 10th in 1 hour 7 minutes and 41 seconds out of 73 teams taking part. The clubs B team included Lisa Blagden 18.36, Sarah Mackness 16.58 and Sharon Clayton 20.54.

The clubs senior mens team finished 23rd out of the 85 teams that started. Chris Rimmer ran the fastest time of the day for the team on the opening leg of 5.8 kilometres in 19.28, with Chris Carter who travelled up from university in Twickenham to recoird 19.53 the club's second fastest, other times were Jamie Davies 21.08, Matt Shenton 22.05, Sam Garmson 22.14, Nick Thomas 22.14, Ashley Slater 22.20 and John Garmson 22.59. The team have now qualified for the National Six Stage Finals later in October.
